Exeter Comedy Festival - The Best of Books, the Blurst of Books!

Saturday 6 June

Exeter Comedy Festival - The Best of Books, the Blurst of Books!

Details

Join us for an evening of comedy and book based chat at Exeter Library, as part of the Exeter Comedy Festival.

4 comedians will take to the stage to talk about their favourite (and least favourite) books…

By the end of the night the audience will decide on the Best Book of All Time. (And the Blurst.*) The Best will be paraded round the streets on a satin cushion, and dog-eared by the Mayor. And the Blurst will be banished from the Library forever!!! (but probably not really… we need all the books we can get)

With Robin Ince, Josie Long, Kev Mud & Joanna Neary. Hosted by Edward Tripp & Chris White

* “Blurst” is a very old and probably overly obscure Simpsons reference. If you don’t get it, look it up… (you stupid monkeys)

Robin Ince is many things. A multi award winning comedian, author, broadcaster, bibliomaniac and a populariser of scientific ideas. He is perhaps best known as the former co-host and co-creator of the BBC Radio 4 series The Infinite Monkey Cage with Professor Brian Cox. As a stand up, Robin has toured the world and as an author he has written four acclaimed books, including Bibliomaniac

Josie Long was the first woman to be nominated 3 times for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. She’s performed globally to sell-out crowds, while her various podcasts and radio shows have garnered multiple awards. In 2023 she released her debut book; a collection of short stories, Because I Don’t Know What You Mean and What You Don’t. And for Radio and TV, Josie has appeared on The News Quiz, Just A Minute, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Skins, 8 out of 10 Cats, and Drunk History.

Kev Mud is “one to watch” (Chortle) and “one of the best new acts in the last 20 years” (Spiky Mike, Funhouse Comedy). He brings his experiences as a homeless ex-addict to a performance that has been described as “honest, charming and humorous” (British Comedy Guide.) In his first 3 years Cornish based Kev has shared the stage with the likes of Frankie Boyle, Sara Pascoe, and Shaparak Khorsandi.

Jo Neary is a Cornish based writer, actor and comedian She writes for Aquila Magazine, and likes gurning and star jumping on stage, screen and - less visually impactful - on the radio. She recently appeared in How Are You? It’s Alan (Partridge), an utterly brilliant comedy series, in which she plays a small role as a struggling alcoholic book group member, who gets farted at.

Edward Tripp’s an award-winning, surreal stand-up poet, who has appeared (materialized) at Just the Tonic in Edinburgh, the London Museum of Comedy and countless other stages. A prop-heavy and provocative performer.

Chris White is a performer, poet and the Events Guy at Exeter Central Library. The founder of Spork! Poetry, a multiple slam winner, and the first Riddler in Residence at Exeter Cathedral, Chris writes about love, ducks, and other wet things.

8pm at Exeter Central Library
